Asked

Voice feedback that people give in thirty seconds and you read in five

Talking is faster than typing, and it feels less formal than being on camera. That makes voice the format many respondents pick when they have something real to say. Asked records voice notes in the browser and turns each one into a transcript, a theme and a quote you can use.

Why voice notes beat the comment box

A comment box invites a short, polite sentence. A voice note invites the story. People mention the workaround they built, the competitor they tried, or the exact moment they nearly gave up, because saying it out loud costs them almost nothing.

Voice also suits people who will not appear on video: someone on a commute, an employee who wants to stay low key, a customer in a noisy store who still wants to be heard.

How answering by voice works

  • The respondent opens your survey link on a phone or computer
  • On an open question they tap Voice
  • The browser asks once for microphone access
  • They speak, see the timer, and stop when they are done
  • They play it back, record again if needed, and submit

There is nothing to install and no account to create. If speaking is not convenient, the same question can accept a typed answer when you allow it.

From voice note to finding

Each voice note is transcribed right after it arrives. The transcript sits next to a player, so clicking a sentence plays that moment. Asked then reads the transcript along with every other answer.

  • Themes show which topics come up across all voice notes
  • Sentiment marks how each speaker feels
  • Quotes keep the strongest sentences with timestamps
  • The one-page summary gathers it for your team

Ask one smart follow-up

Spoken answers often open a new thread. Turn on the AI follow-up for a question, and Asked can ask one extra question based on what the respondent said, such as which step took longest. It is off by default, you enable it per question, and plans include a monthly number of follow-ups.

Where voice feedback works best

  • Employee pulse and exit surveys, where people speak more openly than they type, see employee engagement survey software
  • Customer support follow-ups after a ticket closes
  • Field teams and frontline staff who work away from a desk
  • Product interviews you could never schedule at scale
  • Post-purchase questions for customers on mobile

When seeing the person matters, add video too. Our video surveys page covers that format.

Privacy for spoken answers

A voice note can reveal more than a typed reply, so Asked treats it with care. Recordings are private to your workspace. Nothing is published unless the respondent ticks the consent checkbox, and only then can you place that answer on an answer wall. Set a retention period per survey and delete recordings on request. Our survey data security page lists the controls.

Tips for questions people enjoy answering out loud

Voice works best when the question sounds like something a colleague would ask over coffee. Ask about one moment rather than a general opinion, and invite an example.

  • Ask what happened, not what they think in general
  • Give a time frame, such as the last time they used the product
  • Keep the question to one sentence so it is easy to remember while speaking
  • Leave a typed option for people in quiet places

Transcription minutes per plan

Voice and video share a monthly transcription allowance: 60 minutes on Starter, 300 on Growth, 1,200 on Business and 4,000 on Enterprise. A typical voice answer runs well under a minute, so even Starter covers a solid round of answers. See every limit on survey software pricing.
